Youngstown – Robert B. “Bobby” Simon, 70, passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 15, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Hospital after an extended illness.

Bobby was born on February 19, 1955 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph F. and Saada (Menhem) Simon.

Bobby was extremely intelligent. He received his GED and then a Bachelor of Science degree from Youngstown State on June 19, 1982. On August 17, 1984 Bobby earned a Master of Science degree, specializing in Geology, from Wright State University. While being self-employed for much of his career, he also served as a professor at Eastern Gateway Community College and at Youngstown State University in their Geology Department.

Outside of work, Bobby enjoyed fishing and hunting. He took great pride in his Lebanese heritage, particular in the food department. He was widely known by his friends and family to be an excellent cook and grill master. Most of all, Bobby loved his family. It was a great honor for him to be able to take care of his mother, Saada, until her passing in 2021. Bobby cherished the time he spent with his nieces, nephews and siblings and he will be deeply missed.

Bobby will always be remembered by his siblings, Yvonne (Doug) Blegen of Westerville, Denise (Tom) Gorman of Beaver Creek, Joseph A. (Joanne) Simon of Ellsworth and David T. (Jen) Simon of Youngstown; beloved nieces and nephews, Joseph (Lori) Stephan, Stephanie (Mark) Porter,  Eric (Selasi) Blegen, Mara Simon (fiancé Billy Danielson), Nicholas (Carolyn) Berardino, Christopher Berardino, Luke (Julie) Gorman, Andy (Elizabeth ) Gorman, Tim (Emily) Gorman, Joseph II (Lauren) Simon, Chirstina Simon, Kara (Matt) Paull, Jacob (Madison) Simon, Christopher Simon, Alexander Simon, Ryan (Brandi) Battison, Samantha (Rob) Butler, Rebeka Simon (fiancé Nick Meyer), David (Cayla) Simon, Zach Simon and many loved great nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by dear neighbors and caregivers, Rob and Sherry Pilolli, Carole (Nuth) Petrillo and Lori (Simon) Palm.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. and Saada (Menhem) Simon; a brother, Thomas J. “Tommy” Simon; sister, Constance (Ron) Berardino and niece, Julie Battison.

Family and friends may pay their respects to Bobby on Friday morning., May 23, 2025 from 10 to 11:45am at St. Maron Maronite Church, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

A Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at the church at 12 noon with Father Tony Massad as officiant.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
