Canfield – Ronald Vincent Gizzi, 84, of Canfield, peacefully passed away on Monday afternoon, February 17, 2025 with his loving family by his side.
Ron was born on October 16, 1940 in Lowellville, the son of Phillip and Mary (DeCerbo) Gizzi and was a lifelong area resident.
Ron grew up in Lowellville and played the accordion and organ. He graduated from Lowellville High School and following graduation he joined the United States Air Force on January 21, 1963. He earned the rank of E5 and was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Ron received an Honorable Discharge on December 9, 1966. Upon returning home, Ron attended Youngstown University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
Ron began his career working at Sheet & Tube and then retired after 28 years of service in 1999 from (General Motors) Packard Electric as a skilled trades supervisor.
Ron was a true family man and always made them his top priority. He was always actively involved in his sons and grandkids’ sporting events and was their biggest fan. He coached baseball when his sons were growing up and loved having his family around him.
He attended St. Christine Church and was an active member of the Holy Name Society.
Ron was a sports enthusiast and always enjoyed rooting for his favorite teams, the Cleveland Browns and Guardians along with The Ohio State Buckeyes. His true passion was playing golf and he looked forward to the yearly golf trip with his friends to Santee, South Carolina and his family’s yearly golf outing. He also enjoyed making golf clubs for himself, his family and friends. Ron was very talented as a woodworker and he made grandfather clocks, calendars and shelving.
Ron will always be remembered by the love of his life, his wife of over 55 years, the former Sylvia Bahny whom he married on September 13, 1969, his sons Ronald (Dana) Gizzi and Michael Gizzi, his grandchildren whom he adored Jonathan, Colin, Dominic and Kamryn, a sister Janet (Ed) Erdel, a brother Phillip (Patti) Gizzi, a brother-in-law Nick Bahny and sister-in-law Carmela (Joe) Woodall along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his father Phillip and his mother Mary, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Nick (Florence) Bahny, his sister and brother-in-law Carmella (Dick) Vickers and sister-in-law Fran Bahny.
Family and friends may pay their respects to Ronald on Friday morning, February 21, 2025 from 10:30 am until 11:20 am at St. Christine Parish, 3165 S Schenley Ave, Youngstown, where a Funeral Mass will take place at 11:30 am with Father John Jerek as celebrant.
Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the great men of the Ellsworth VFW and the United States Air Force.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
Ron’s family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the caregivers and the entire staff of Patriot Hospice for all the care and compassion shown to them and Ron throughout this difficult time.
