Stephanie Chimento Obituary

Youngstown - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce on Thursday, August 22, 2024 our little angel Stephanie M. Chimento made her transition to her Heavenly home after a week long battle with a gastrointestinal bleed.

Stephanie will always be remembered for so being such a beautiful woman. She had a smile that could light up any room along with her sense of humility, compassion, generosity and loyalty. Not surprisingly, she gave in death as she gave in life; Stephanie was an organ and tissue donor and her final act of kindness was to give the gift of life with donation through Lifebanc.

She and her twin sister Tiffany Ann Chimento were born at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital on March 9, 1982, the daughters of Frank R. “Pape” and Mary Anne (Pleger) Chimento. The twins were born 7 weeks early and became fighters from day one.

Stephanie attended St. Christine School and graduated from Ursuline High School within the class of 2000. She continued her education at Youngstown State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in early elementary education and graduated in 2008.

In 2005 Stephanie faced another obstacle in her life. She was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Being the fighter she was, Stephanie endured unlimited chemo and radiation, had 3 bone marrow transplants (2 at the Cleveland Clinic and her 3rd and successful transplant at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center “The James”). She was 8 years cancer free and throughout all the treatments and transplants Stephanie worked and attended school.

She was employed as a teacher with the Warren School District where she taught reading for the past 12 years at Willard Elementary School. She had a way with children and loved her little “kiddos

Stephanie’s faith was a true example of trusting in God and a pillar in her church. She was a very active member at her beloved Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica where she was a Eucharistic minister, taught CCD and youth ministry and volunteered with the Italian Culture Week.

Stephanie had so much love to offer and loved all of you so much, her family, her school family, her church family, her marina family and her relay for life family. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

Stephanie leaves behind to hold onto her precious memories her best friend and twin sister Tiffany A. Chimento of Youngstown, her beloved mother and father Mary Anne (George) Gania of Warren, Brother Geoffrey Gania of Howland and her uncle Robert Chimento along with many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Stephanie is now reunited in heaven with her father Frank R. “Pape” Chimento and her grandparents.

Family and friends may pay their respects to Stephanie on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.

There will be a Funeral Mass held on Saturday at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cargilio as celebrant. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church on Saturday morning to celebrate Stephanie’s mass.

Interment will be done privately at Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Ursuline High School, 750 Wick Ave, Youngstown, Ohio 44505 or to the Arthur James Cancer Hospital, 460 W 10th Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43210.
