Theresa A. "Terry" Khoury

Liberty - There will be a Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maron’s Church, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, with Chorbishop Michael Kail as celebrant and Chorbishop Anthony Spinosa con-celebrating the life of Theresa A. “Terry” Khoury, 75, of Liberty, who peacefully passed away early Saturday morning, August 18, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Terry was a true role model as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and educator. She always led by example with a positive attitude, no matter what the obstacle may have been. Terry will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends as a gentle, kind, loving and vibrant woman.

She was born February 15, 1943 in Youngstown, the daughter of Ferris and Sadie “Sara” (Joseph) Nemer and was a lifelong area resident.

            Terry was a 1960 graduate of Ursuline High School and then continued her education to earn her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree both in Education from Youngstown State University along with her Reading Certification.

            She was a proud teacher for over 37 years, with 30 of those in the Liberty School System where she had the honor of positively influencing numerous young lives.  Prior to her retirement in 1998, Terry had received numerous awards in education, including the prestigious Martha Holden Jennings Scholar Award.

            Terry was a lifelong and active member of St. Maron Church where she was a member of the St. Tobias Society, St. George Club, and was a lector for many years. She also taught Sunday School for over 25 years at the church, volunteered to work Bingo, and was a founder of the prayer line.

            Terry was a member of the Ohio Education Association, National Education Association, the Trumbull County Retired Teachers, the Catholic Collegiate Association and her High School Reunion Committee. She was also in Who’s Who of America Teachers and volunteered at the Youngstown Playhouse as a Docent.

            Terry had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed reading, traveling throughout the United States and abroad, making jewelry and doing crafts. She was also a proud homemaker and loved to cook. Her most cherished times were rolling grape leaves with her grandchildren and teaching them how to cook.

Terry leaves behind to hold onto her precious memories the love of her life and husband of nearly 55 years Antoine “Tony” Khoury whom she married December 21, 1963 at St. Maron Church, three children whom she adored Tony (Jarma) Khoury of Greenville, North Carolina, Collette (Lee) Fine and Lisa (Mark) Leszynski both of Strongsville, her eight grandchildren who brought her so much joy Ely, Bryn, Jeremy,  Gabby, Brady, Julia, Leah and Aubrey and two sisters Betsy Featsent of Youngstown and Sister Mary Augustine Nemer of Kenya along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Besides her parents, Terry was preceded in death by three sisters Mary Catherine Rotar, Jeannie Featsent and Bobbie Scharrer.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., (new location) where the Prayers of Incense Prayer Service will take place at 6:30 pm. Friends and family may also pay respects on Thursday morning, August 23, 2018 from 9:00 am until 9:45 am at St. Maron Church, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
