Austintown – Thomas A. “Tom” Stolar, 76, of Austintown, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, January 27, 2024.
He was born March 5, 1947, in Youngstown, the son of Andrew and Dorothy (Chismar) Stolar and was a lifelong area resident.
Tom grew up on the Westside of Youngstown where he excelled in football and was a 1965 graduate of Chaney High School. Following graduation Tom enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He proudly served overseas and was awarded the following decorations for his service to our country; the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device (1960) and ribbon bar and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge on March 25, 1970, Tom returned home and entered the workforce at Sheet & Tube as a carpenter until its closing. He then began a 30 year career with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier until his retirement.
He was a long time member of St. Dominic Church.
Tom always made his family his top priority, especially his grandson. He was a die hard Cleveland Browns fan and loved to talk, eat, and cook all kinds of food. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed time on and off the course with his golf buddies, participating in multiple golf leagues.
Tom leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories, the love of his life, his wife of over 49 years the former Joann M. Naples whom he married November 9, 1974 at St. Dominic Church, his beloved daughter, Kelli Stolar of Big Pine Key, Florida, his grandson whom he adored, Tyler Stolar and his fiancé Sadie Johnston of Youngstown, a sister JoAnn Stolar and her companion Mike Nyers of Youngstown and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
There will be a Funeral Mass held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave., Youngstown. Everyone is asked to meet us directly at the church on Friday to celebrate Tom’s Mass.
Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the great men of the Ellsworth VFW Post 9571.
Tom’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Select Specialty Hospital (South Ave) for all the care and compassion shown to Tom and them throughout this difficult process.
