Vincenzina Garcia Obituary

Canfield - Vincenzina “Gina” (Scaccia) Garcia, 86, of Canfield, passed away peacefully on February 9. 2024 at Hospice House with her family at her side.

Gina was born in Frosinone, Italy. She came to America in March of 1955 with only a suitcase and a hundred-dollar bill. She worked hard for more than 25 years at Squaw Creek Country Club as head server and banquet manager.

She and her husband Charles had an amazing life together. From the time they were married in 1973, they enjoyed traveling, including spending winters in Florida, and visiting her family in Italy and his in Spain. As a beloved Nonna, she also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sharing stories and of course, her food, with them. She was an amazing cook and made the best eggplant parmesan, zucchini fritters, and pizzelles.

Gina was an avid shopper; everyone always knew where she was in her white Lincoln Town Car. Her favorite local stores knew her by name and loved having her business, the honorary queen of Kohl’s and Macy’s. In retirement, she also found joy taking casino trips and playing cards and bocce ball with her dear friends, Al and Michelle Russo, Pauline D. Lullio, and Annie Leone. Because she had such a loving heart, Gina had special neighbors she considered her bonus grandchildren, Luca and Karseyn, who affectionately called her Grandma G. The tenants in her building always looked out for her as well; Donna, Fran, Bill, Caroline, Kathy, and Tim.

She leaves behind so many that loved her dearly including her daughter Jennifer (Richard) Antonucci, her granddaughters Michelle (Patrick) Williams, Erica (Dr. Jeffrey) Kempe, Gina Antonucci, Catherine Otto, grandson August Mileto, and great grandchildren Julianna Williams, Olivia Kempe, Layla Otto, Elizabeth Williams, and Audrey Kempe. She will also be dearly missed by her brother Giacinto (Miranda) Scaccia, sisters Rosanella and Maria Pina Scaccia, stepchildren Kathy, Linda, and Gail, and niece Karen (Robert) Merritt and their children Brett and Brittany. Her family still resides in Italy and she will be missed by many nieces and nephews there.

Gina is preceded in death by her husband Charles, her children James, Georgette, and Dino, parents Christopher and Amelia Scaccia, stepson Charlie, and sister-in-law Maria Lo Guidice.

The picture shown of Gina is from the day she was granted her American citizenship in 1969.
