Julia A. Cardarelli

June 25, 1930 ~ March 13, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Poland - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, Youngstown, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home 4221 Market St., Boardman (new location), with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio officiating, for Julia A. Cardarelli, 86, of Poland, who passed away early Monday morning, March 13, 2017.

Julia was born Julia A. Farinelli on June 25, 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of Emilio Farinelli and Jennie (Cipriano) Farinelli. 

She was employed for many years as a baker and cake decorator at Leroy’s Bakery in the McKelvey’s Parkade, McKelvey’s Bakery and Mr. Paul’s Bakery.  She enjoyed baking and creating many beautiful cakes and cookies for all occasions.  She was an excellent cook, her famous spaghetti sauce and other Italian dishes were enjoyed by many over the years. 

Julia served on various social committees at Our Lady of Mt Carmel and especially enjoyed working on the Festival Committees.  She and her husband spent many summers traveling around Ohio and Pennsylvania attending many Italian Festivals.

She was also an active member and past President of the East Garden Club in Lincoln Park.

Julia enjoyed teaching others to crochet and knit and created many beautiful and treasured works of art.

She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas B. Cardarelli on July 23, 1949 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.  They were married for nearly 57 years prior to his death on June 17, 2006.

They raised together four children:  Thomas P. (Christine Reagan) Cardarelli, Carol (Jim) McGuinness, Phyllis (Anthony) Leone, and Christina (Christopher) Merdich.  She was grandmother to Bernie (Jennifer) McGuinness, Sara Cardarelli, Carla (Eric) Glosser, Michael Merdich and David Merdich and great-grandmother to Penelope and Charlie Glosser, Reagan Dudek, and Cameron and Angelina McGuinness.

She also leaves behind a sister, Elizabeth (John) Spagnola and a brother, Anthony (Marilyn) Farinelli as well as sister-in-law Eleanor Cardarelli, brother-in-law Bill (Barbara) Cardarelli, sister-in-law Dolores Farinelli and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Sabatino (Sam) Farinelli, brother-in-law, Anthony Cardarelli, and in-laws Bernardino and Philomena Cardarelli.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, March 17, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. Boardman (new location).

Burial will take place next to her husband Thomas, at Poland Riverside Cemetery, Poland.
