There will be a funeral service held on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Market St., Boardman, with Pastor Mike Zenn officiating for Ronald “Ron” Rocco Berardino, 75, of Boardman, who passed away Thursday evening, December 21, 2017, with his loving family by his side.
He was born October 19, 1942, in Youngstown, the son of Ralph and Josephine (Ferrelli) Berardino, and was a lifelong area resident.
Ron was a 1960 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, where he excelled in football, and then continued his education and passion for sports at Youngstown State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology.
He was employed at WCI Steel Company as a foreman and retired in 2007.
Ron was a proud United States Marine Veteran and earned the rank of PFC (E-2). His military specialty was Combat Engineering. Ron was awarded the following decorations for his service to our country; the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Rifle Marksmanship Badge.
Ron had many passions in his life. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, and fishing. His greatest devotion was to his family, especially his children and grandchildren, of whom he was so proud. Ron was also an avid sports fan, always rooting for his favorite Cleveland teams.
Ron leaves behind his beloved wife of over 41 years, the former Connie Simon, whom he married on November 20, 1976, three sons Ron (Sabrina) Berardino of Boardman, and Nicholas (Carolyn) Berardino and Christopher (Nadia) Berardino, both of Canfield, six grandchildren Gianna, Zachary, Nicholas, Luke, Aviana, and Gemma, and two sisters Sandy (Henry) Cardillo of Poland and Elaine (Bob) Moore of Youngstown.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, from 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman (new location) and again on Thursday morning, December 28, 2017, from 10:40 am until 10:55 am in the Chapel at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Boardman.
Burial with military honors will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Boardman.
In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made in Ron’s name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, Ohio 44514.
Ron’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Caprice Health Care and the Hospice House for all their care and compassion.
